The death of Adolph Hitler occurred in Berlin, Germany on April 30, 1945, in the Fuhrerbunker, a subterranean air raid shelter that Hitler had been living in since the beginning of the year. Nazi German forces were on the verge of collapse and Berlin had been effectively cut off from military support. In April of 1945 Adolf Hitler married his long time partner, Ava Braun. While accounts of the exact cause of death differ, the couple took their own lives as Russian military forces closed in on the Nazi headquarters during the Battle of Berlin. Ava Braun committed suicide by administration of cyanide, while Hitler died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the temple, possibly in conjunction with administration of cyanide.
